ANDROID,this word is known to most of the people in this world.Yes as we all know android is the operating system for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers.In this blog you could find a detailed information on this thriving OS.

DEVELOPMENT:

Android OS is based on Linux kernel and it was developed by Google.The android Inc.was founded in October 2003 Andy Rubin,Rich Miner,Nick sears and Chris white.Their main focus is to develop OS for smartphones that rival those of Symbian and Windows mobile. Later on Google acquired android Inc. in August 2005.Currently android is undergoing development by Google and Open Handset Alliance(OHA)[OHA is a consortium of 84 firms .The main objective is to develop open standards for mobile devices.The firms includes Google,Sony,Dell,Samsung electronics and many other firms.]

VERSIONS:

The android versions are based on confectionery-based theme code name except the first two versions.The versions are:

• Android 1.0
• Android 1.1
• Android 1.5(Cupcake)
• Android 1.6(Doughnut)
• Android 2.0-2.1(Eclair)
• Android 2.2-2.2.3(Froyo)
• Android 2.3-2.3.7(Gingerbread)
• Android 3.0-3.2.6(honeycomb)
• Android 4.0-4.0.4(Ice cream sandwich) 
• Android 4.1-4.3.1(Jelly bean)
• Android 4.4-4.4.4(Kit kat)

'L' is under developer preview and the version names suggested are Lollipop,lemon pie.This version may be known as Android 4.5 or Android 5.0 which is not yet revealed but this will be shown off  this year(2014).

Android is being developed at a fast rate  and these mobile devices has more likes in the younger generations.This OS has competitors like Apple iOS,Windows,Blackberry etc.can android survive his competitors? what are the updates will be available in the upcoming years?will this OS bring a evolutionary changes in this electronic world?these are the questions which is expected to be answered in the upcoming years.Whatever it is currently android has made a strong foundation in mobile world. This OS is the largest installed base of any mobile OS and the Google play store had over 50 billion apps downloaded and more apps are being downloaded.
